For the hapless insomniac
Another endless night
Awake he lay
In solitary unrest
Drowning in darkness
The wall clock's rhythmic ticking
Like an axe on a tree
Till he beckoned the poet
To the dark vacant depths
Of his still mind
The poet arose
Words cascaded
Swirled, churned
Giant butterflies
Purple roses on a beach
Dragons and daffodils
Burst forth
Into the insomniac's hijacked
mind
As the night faded into morning
Richer in sweet poetry
